What is different about it?
What to expect in a good one
- A wide door with a handrail built in.
- A seat molded at chair height.
- A textured floor. It grips when it is wet. Porcelain does not.
- A valve that keeps the water from getting hot enough to burn you.
- Fast fill and fast drain. The door cannot open until the water is out, so this matters.
- Jets are optional on most models. They cost extra. Some tubs work as a shower too, so other people in the house can still shower standing up.

A certified bathing specialist comes to your home, measures the bathroom, and goes through models and design options with you. Free, and there's no obligation to buy.

If you move forward, certified installers do the work, usually in a single day. Demolition, plumbing, and electrical are all handled. You don't lift anything.
What it costs
The cost depends on your bathroom, the model you pick, and what's behind your existing tub wall.
A good quote is one number covering the tub, the demolition, the plumbing, the electrical, and the install, with nothing added on installation day. Financing is commonly available on approved credit.
Veterans may qualify for special discounts on walk-in tubs. Be sure to ask about available veteran savings when you speak with a walk-in tub specialist.
Five things to ask before you sign
- How long is this price good for? Ninety days is normal. Get the date in writing.
- How high is the step? Ask for the number in inches. It changes from model to model, and it is the main thing you are buying.
- What does the warranty cover, and for how long? Ask specifically about the door seal. That is the part that leaks.
- Does this price include taking out my old tub and hauling it away? It should.
- What happens if there is water damage under my old tub? This is the most common surprise. Ask before they open the wall, not after.
